Educational programs:

ACTHA is offering three tracks of educational programming. Attendees are able to select one of three choices for the following time periods:
          9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.
        11:15 a.m. - 12:15 a.m.
          1:15p.m. -   2:15 p.m.
          2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - "Ask an Attorney" - general session
 
From 8 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. there is a Trade Show open to the general public.

9:15 - 10:15 a.m. (select from one of the three choices below):
  1. Governance of an Association*  - This session will cover but is not limited to: definition of terms, governing documents, pertinent law, the role of board members, officers and owners, rule enforcement Faculty: David Bendoff of Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit
  2. Budgets: Don't Gamble on the Health of Your Association - Don't leave it to a roll of the dice. Learn how to prepare a budget, prioritize items and projects, differentitate between necessities and "nice-to-haves," plan for fallout from foreclosures and bankruptcies and more. Speaker:  Martin Stone of HSR Property Services
  3. The Greening of Associations  - Is your association environmentally friendly? Many turn to environmental issues as a means of cutting costs to maintain the interior and exterior (such as utilities, use of pesicides) while enhancing the appearance of the property and being kind to the environment.  Speakers: Hans Hermann of Cost Containment Internaitonal and Jim Stoller of The Building Group
11:15 – 12:15 p.m. (select from one of three choices below):
  1. Governance of an Association*  - This is a continuation of the seminar described above
  2. Reserves: Is Your Building Funded to Survive the Future?  There should be no mystery to foretelling needed future repairs and improvements and how to fund those projects without resorting to special assessments.  Presenter: Mitch Frumkin of Kipcon
  3. Window Replacement 101: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Windows - We all know windows are meant to keep the outside elements out without blocking the view. But how do you know the features, requirements, options, costs and specification to replace windows in your building. Presenter:  Ken Mariotti of Woodland Windows and Doors
1:30 - 2:30 p.m.  (select from one of the three choices below):
            
           
1.  Self-Management vs. Professional Management: What's Best for Your Association? - Every story                  could have a good or bad ending. Don't leave yours to chance! What are the otipons and is there life                              between the two extremes?  The deciding factors are usually financial, control, size of association and                              perception of experience and knowledge levels.  Speakers:  Shirley Feldmann of Association Advocates                     and Kathleen Penland of Penland & Hartwell
             2. Collection of Assessments: In Good Times and Bad Times - Every association must have a policy and                  procedures for collections. Owners want to pay on time, but life sometimes presents financial problems that                  get in the way. Duty must come before pity in collecting delinquent accounts and fines and coping with                          foreclosures and bankruptcies.  Speakers: Gabriella Comstock and Dawn Moody of Knuckles Keough &                 Moody
             3.  Predictive Management and Water Damage: Wow, I didn't Know I Could See That - Learn how                       the latest technology can help you solve building problems and save money!  The use of thermal imaging
                 will allow you to detect energy and air leaks, plumbing leak moisture, hot spots in electrical panels, etc. See a                  simulated flood and a demonstration of the inspection, mitigation and communication phases of a water loss.                   Speakers: Jim O'Callaghan of ACR and Steve McCloud of Universla Restoration Services.

2:30 - 3:30 p.m.   Ask an Attorney - our most popular session with the opportunity to hear guidance and opinion from top attorneys in the community association field.  Moderator: Charles VanderVennet, Panelists: Gabriella Comstock of Knuckles Keough Moody and Kathleen Penland of Penland and Hartwell

* Asterisked sessions are part of “Learn and Lead” - ACTHA’s Certification Program for owners in community associations. Anyone may attend these sessions, but if you are interested in pursuing your “ACTHA Certified Leader” standing, there is a nominal surcharge for doing so. We also ask that you pre-register.

General conference information:
  • Registration opens at 8 a.m. (Note: There is an additional charge of $20 per person if registering at the door)
  • ACTHA Member Registration: $45 per person or $30 per person if sending three or more from the same association; The "Learn and Lead" program is offered periodically throughout the year in different locations.  To receive email alerts on when and where the courses are being offered go back to the home site and click on email alerts) If registering at the door, add $20 per person to the above prices
  • Non-member Registration: $120 per person
  • The Trade Show is open to the general public from 8 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
