EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS:The Expo, featuring area businesses is open to the general public from 8 a.m. - noon at no charge. There is a fee if you intend on attending the ACTHA educational programs listed below. There are two tracks of educational programming. Attendees are able to select from one of two choices for the following time periods:

9:30 - 10:30 a.m. (select from one of the two choices below):

Rentals/Hardship - Sizzling Hot Topic:What can a poor owner do? Can't pay the mortgage and need to get out from under the monthly housing cost? Even associations that restrict rentals are now rethinking this subject because of the economic impact on the ability of owners to sell their units. What are the benefits and negatives to both the owner and the association in approving a hardship rental? Presenters: David Bloomberg of Chuhak and Tecson and Keith Conrad of MC Property Management

Community Association Manager Licensing - Licensing for managers will take effect once the proposed rules are adopted which we anticipate will be sometime this fall.  This session will discuss the law and its implementation.  What will managers need in order to be licensed?  Are all managers subject to the law?  How are associations affected? How do they determine if their manager is licensed? Presenters: Angela Falzone of Association Advocates, Inc. and Robert Prince of Tressler LLC

Noon - 1:00 p.m. (select from one of two choices below):

Owners vs. Association: Real Court Challenges and Cases What are the single biggest issues when an association is sued? What are "non-monetary damages?" This seminar will discuss actual lawsuits from a Chicago high-rise association sued over elevator noise to a board that denied an owner a handicapped ramp to an owner purchasing a dog for mental health therapy in a no-pets building. You may be surprised at the claims, the insurance company responses and the outcomes. Mot importantly, the program will provide useful information to boards and managers for avoiding claims, lawsuits and awards.  Presenters: Charles Hruska III of Hruska Insurancenter and Rob Kogen of Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit

Understanding Financials - Losing Your Money Has Dire Consequences: Treasurer says "I thought you were keeping an eye on the spending" and President says "You're the Treasurer so it's your job to know." The buck stops on the doorstep of all board members, so it's time to learn the numbers and remove the mystery in this hands-on session. Presenters: George Ferenzi, CPA of Ferenzi and Associates and Janet Walker of Williamson Management

NEW!!! "MARKETING FOR MANAGERS" - A free program for ACTHA managers only. Conducted by Diana Krieter, Marketing Director for Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit, this two-hour program will provide you with vital information to build your business. The seminar will be in two parts: 8: 15 - 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.
