New Laws Affecting Your Associations and How to Voice Your Concerns to Legislators
ACTHA Legislative Seminar May 17, 2018
On Thursday, May 17, 2018 ACTHA held a Legislative Update featuring Marshall N. Dickler of the law ﬁrm of Dickler, Kahn, Slowikowski and Zavell Ltd. at the Deerﬁeld Public Library, Deerﬁeld, Illinois.
The seminar was well attended by the ACTHA members and non-members alike.
Mr. Dickler spoke about the current Association legislation which aﬀected Association Boards and unit owners as well.
He emphasized the need for Board members and unit owners to be aware of the importance of becoming current and involved in the legislative process. Being knowledgeable and up to date on the legislation that is currently being formulated and being considered is crucial to your ﬁduciary duty to your Association. Knowing how to navigate the Illinois legislative website is a key to being informed. He explained the process of ﬁlling out a witness slip as a way of supporting or voicing opposition to current legislation thus having a voice in the legislative process.
He brought with him a bevy of current legislation being considered in the Illinois legislature. Seminar attendees had ﬁrst hand knowledge of the legislative materials before the legislators.
Seminar attendees left with binders of materials provided by the speaker Marshall N. Dickler.
All the seminar attendees were able to have all their questions answered on the topic.
Mr. Dickler provided much knowledge and humorous anecdotes about his involvement in the ILAC Committee, which is the Illinois Legislative Action Committee, which supports legislation for Association Boards and the Condominium Industry. He has served on this committee for many years.
